Term Paper Timeline Revised


Junior Class History/English Paper Term Paper 2013

Basic Criteria
  1. 5-7 pages (double-spaced and typed MLA format)
  2. The rough draft () and final copy () must be turned in to turnitin.com by midnight of the due date
  3. Five sources (at least three print sources, which could include the MUSE database, the EBSCO database, Online Magazines and Newspaper articles, as well as online books-ebooks). You may not use encyclopedias and no more than two internet sources may be used and they must either be .edu or .org or approved by your English teacher. Under no circumstances may you use Wikipedia as a source, but it can be read for your general knowledge)
  4. MLA documentation
  5. All assignments (thesis, annotated bibliography, outline, rough draft, and final copy) must be turned in to your English teacher and your history teacher electronically.
  6. Please study this schedule carefully to make sure that you arrive IN the library or IN the classroom ON TIME on the correct day.

Mar. 25th             Period 3rd  HS Room 6: Introduction, discuss overview (Thesis Statement, Outline, Rough Draft, Final Draft) Thesis statement criteria, persuasive writing, MLA, Plagiarism. Discuss topic list handout.

Mar. 26-27          Period 3rd Computer Lab: Choose speech and begin Library Research, work on thesis statement and  Annotated Bibliography (Five Sources)  
WHAT IS AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY?
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents. Each citation is followed by a brief descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.
THE PROCESS
-Creating an annotated bibliography calls for the application of a variety of intellectual skills: concise exposition, succinct analysis, and informed library research.
-First, locate and record citations to books, Periodicals, and documents that may contain useful information and ideas on your topic. Briefly examine and review the actual items. --Then choose those works that provide a variety of perspectives on your topic.
-Cite the book, article, or document using the appropriate style.
-Write a concise annotation that summarizes the central theme and scope of the book or article. Include one or more sentences that (a) evaluate the authority or background of the author, (b) comment on the intended audience, (c) compare or contrast this work with another you have cited, or (d) explain how this work illuminates your bibliography topic.

Mar. 28th              Research in the Library Hand in preliminary thesis statement and Annotated Bibliography:  start note cards.  
Note cards: Cards from at least five (5) secondary bibliographic sources. Include (1) source and (2) page number, (3) heading, (4) notes, and (5) relevance of information. One (1) source per card. One (1) topic per card. Minimum total of 20 cards.

April 1st                Lib. Discuss how to write an outline and work on outline. Discuss and hand in Preliminary Analysis of the Speech.

April 2nd                Lib.  End of the period Inter 6 people 10 Note Cards (the rest after the tournament). Research and work on outlines.

April 3rd               Lib. Work on outlines, Note Cards


April 4th                 Lib. Hand in 20 Note Cards Due at Midnight.

April 8th                 Lib.  Outlines Due at Midnight (preferably the end of class) . Discuss extended outline.

April 9th                Lib.  Work on extended outline. Student-Teacher meetings.
April 10th              Lib 2nd period, 3rd Classroom
April 11th              Lib. (Extended Outline Due with works cited at Midnight)
April 12th              Lib. Type Rough Draft
April 15th              Lib. Turn in rough draft (1 copy to each teacher Electronic by 11:55, and uploaded to turnitin.com)
April 16th              Practice AP Test at PACA              
April 17th              Regular Class
April 18th              Lib. Rough draft returned.  Conferences with teachers to discuss papers. Discuss editing and changes for Final Draft.
April 22nd              Regular Class with the possibility of discussing changes
April 28th              Final Copy due (No Late Papers)
