Prelim Analysis: The First Strike

Copy your speech into a word document and do the following:

You will need to hand in a preliminary analysis of your speech next Monday, April 1st.
 The preliminary analysis includes:
#1  Short paragraph about purpose

#2  Three Rhetorical devices -- under each, bullet points of examples/uses

#3  Three comments, with brief explanations, about the structure of the whole speech.

Do a good, complete job, but it is not the finished product so I am not asking for an extensive analysis....yet.

Sorry about the previous bad formatting.

Annotated Bibliography Due Thursday at the End of Class

You will need five sources for your annotated bibliography.

WHAT IS AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY?
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents. Each citation is followed by a brief descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.
THE PROCESS
-Creating an annotated bibliography calls for the application of a variety of intellectual skills: concise exposition, succinct analysis, and informed library research.
-First, locate and record citations to books, Periodicals, and documents that may contain useful information and ideas on your topic. Briefly examine and review the actual items. --Then choose those works that provide a variety of perspectives on your topic.
-Cite the book, article, or document using the appropriate style.
-Write a concise annotation that summarizes the central theme and scope of the book or article. Include one or more sentences that (a) evaluate the authority or background of the author, (b) comment on the intended audience, (c) compare or contrast this work with another you have cited, or (d) explain how this work illuminates your bibliography topic.

Review of a Music Review For Thursday

For February 28th remember to send me (bring me) an article reviewing a song/CD/project and your analysis of the author's style. I need the original article and your analysis, which should be about three paragraphs long. You can use any review source you would like as long as it is well written (Rolling Stone, Christianity Today has a music section, or other music blogs). You will have a pretty hard time finding a review of a specific song, I think, so a review of a whole album is fine.
Email me:
1) original article
2) your three paragraph analysis

Carnaval and Other Happenings

Remember to write down your observation about both of your images. Have something for each of the terms -- if your image doesn't have one, observe the effect of its absence. That is for next Thursday.

Blog Entries: You should have done through #22 for break. Last week, on Monday, you should have done #23. This Friday is #24. The following Monday #25 will be due.  Double check where you are in the process and numbers. You should also have commented on a classmate's blog.

Have a marvelous Carnaval by having fun and staying out of trouble ;-)
